Milan – S/S 2006 Bottega Veneta Men

Tomas Maier’s menswear collection for the Italian label Bottega Veneta was another hit for Milan Fashion Week. The designer showed numerous pieces that were not only wearable and sellable but shifts the label into a new market. The strip polo’s with contrasting collars and button lapel’s ring in a sixties feel. The pants are full legged and relaxed and fit perfectly. The only miss look for the collection is all the jackets. They were cut incorrectly, the jackets gathered in the front when buttoned. The must have piece of the collection is biker jackets in navy & green with a high waist.

Milan – S/S 2006 Emporio Armani Men

Earlier this week Milanese icon, Giorgio Armani showed his women’s collection for Spring/Summer. Unfortunately the women’s collection did not grab my attention as much as the men’s pieces. Although there were only a handful of men’s pieces in the show, every outfit seemed to grasp the spotlight of the runway. The loosely fitted sheer silk shirts in black and blue gave each outfit a peak of sexiness. The men’s blazers were cut to the Armani form, either loose-relaxed or tailored. The crowning piece in the collection was the silk taffeta tuxedo with the off-white pants. The taffeta gives the tuxedo a standout look with a subtle sheen. Bravo Monsieur Armani.

London – S/S 2006 Aquascutum Men

The men’s collection for Aquascutum had a handful of standout looks. A lot in the women’s collection carried in to the men’s. The key pieces for this collection are the coats and jackets. My favorite trench coats were the pink mini trench, the full-length acid wash black trench coats (so 80’s). The one trench that knocked my socks off was the round lapel trench in Eggshell. The Wedgwood prints also carried over from the women’s. The print was on long sleeve and short sleeve shirts. The other pieces in the collection did not fair so well. The pants were the standard taper leg and the plaid shirts we to dated.

NYC - S/S 2006 Tomer Men

Tomer Gendler is one of the most promising menswear lines to hit NY fashion week. The 26 year old designer showed earlier this week at the UPS Hub along with another favorite of mine, Project Alabama. It seems that UPS has shocked the fashion community. The collection shinning moments were the flat front pants that seems to taper in the back for a great looking ass. The pants also had bi-color trim and details that catch the eye immediately. Another pant that stood out in the collection were the dickey pants, I know dickeys are so dated but Tomer pulled the look off. Tomer attempted to do the above ankle trend this season but they were cut to high. I did love the bowlers the models wore but they were 2 sizes to small. Tomer has pulled of a classy collection that has so many pieces that are wearable. Bravo Tomer

NYC - S/S 2006 John Bartlett Men

John Bartlett’s Spring/Summer collection is one to scratch you head about. “What was he thinking?” Although I fell in love with the opening hats with their front and back brims. The Birkenstocks paired with purple socks was a big whoops, the distracted you from the clothes. No wonder, many pieces were made of stiff linen and big bulky hemp. The cut of the hemp pants are also poorly executed, first guess is in the cut. Overall the collection has no stand out pieces a real disappointment for menswear. Mr. Bartlett has such a great track record. I will give Mr. Bartlett a hand for the brilliant casting of some good looking redhead models.

NYC - S/S 2006 Kenneth Cole Men

Kenneth Cole’s Men’s collection last weekend put his women’s to shame. The collection offered classic pieces in strong looks. The color palette was similar to women’s collection but the rich fabrics can be found in this men’s collection. Silk mock turtlenecks and wife beaters paired with strong blazers and day coats. The pants were simple pleats but the above the ankle length pants were divine. Most certainly a look for this season, David Bowie wore the same pant length in the recent Fashion Rocks event. The standout accessory for the collection was the thin leather belt in red, brown and white. Overall the collection is bounce back from the Women’s. Bravo Mr. Cole

Milan's Menswear S/S 06 - File 1

Milan is now settled after a long week of shows. With the Spring/Summer 2006 for Milan over, I will post my reviews of the designers shows later this week. Bottom line it looks like the designers were all over the board but one them in common is reminiscing about the early 20th century. As usual Alexander McQueen has provided a new walk of clothing and vision to this world. More to come!
