Did You Know........

Did you know that Burt Reynolds was offered the role of James Bond after Sean Connery handed in his resignation. So Burt has been kicking himself for over 30 years now. All I have to say is thank you Burt, Roger Moore is my favorite Bond........

70's Janice is Back

Janice Dickinson has been one of my muses ever since I was kid. She lived and came out on top, but now it looks like Janice is falling back into her old habits. With her best seller “No Lifeguard on Duty” she put her face back into the media. But three seasons of "America's Next Top Model” put her back on top. With her appearance on “The Surreal Life” it seems like Janice is heading back down the wrong road. Janice’s appearance on the “TSL” and all these new stories of her public display of her bad habits, are sad. This is not the Janice I meet back in 2003. I hope she pull out of this bad rut.

Separation of Church & State vol. 3

I am continuing my efforts to read more and more about the foundation of the Separation of Church and State. Today I bring you a quote from George Mason, one of the most unrecognized figures in US history. Mason drafted the Virginia Declaration of Rights, the first law of its kind. He attended the Continental Congress and fought to ratify the Constitution because it contained no bill of rights. Mason would not sign the final Constitution document but his fight led to the First 10 Amendments of the Constitution. This quote is proof that the driving force of our founding fathers continues to be chopped up and used for personal gain. (Most politicians take out or skip that last sentence)

George Mason
Author of the 1776 Virginia Declaration of Rights
The Papers of George Mason, Vol. 3, p. 1071, 1119

"That Religion, or the Duty which we owe to our Creator, and the Manner of discharging it, can be directed only by Reason and Conviction, not by Force or Violence, and therefore all Men have an equal natural and unalienable Right to the free Exercise of Religion, according to the Dictates of Conscience, and that no particular religious Sect or Society ought to be favored or established by Law, in Preference to others"

CHARLIE and HARRY and NARNIA oh my!!!!!

I saw "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" yesterday, I generally liked the movie. I think both the original and the Burton version stand on their own. What I truly like about the film is how Tim Burton strayed from the original script and keeping true to the book. The first hour of the movie is a Visual Spectacular and just when you expected the movie to be over you a treated to 30 minute ending that leaves little unanswered.

Showing on the IMAX screen was the trailer for "Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire". I cannot wait for this movie to come out, November is a long ways away though.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Teaser Trailer

Clem finished the "Half Blood Prince" in less than 24 hours. He said he liked it and the ending could be interpreted differently. Production of the 5th movie will begin production in late February 2006 and released in June 2007.

Another movie to tickle our inner child is "The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" staring Tilda Swinton, Brian Cox and Rupert Everett. I loved these books growing up and I am excited about the movie.

Logo Travel, Scare Me Away!

With the recent launch of Logo TV, I have enjoyed some of their great shows. I am a sucker for anything to do with Weddings like "First Comes Love". But, the Travel series "Round Trip Ticket" has scared me away from a certain location. Like, the recent special on Stockholm, Sweden. With locals commenting how "There is very little for gay or lesbian to do in the city". One complaint by a young business man was "I have to be careful in public, I can't hold my boyfriends hand or show any PDA" and when asked why they are suppressed, the quick reply is "there is still a large Nazi population in Sweden." I've scratched Sweden off my to do list for now.............Man I hope this show just interviewed the wrong people. I hope their wrong.

Another downside to the "Round Trip Ticket" is I am tired of learning abou the best bars in town, best clubs in town or best gay hip hotels.......GIVE ME SOME CULTURE~!!!!!!!

I am Proud of.............

I am proud to say Gavin Newsom is my MAYOR! The man has done a lot for San Francisco since his taken office. I ran across this really great picture of him -- I think its one of the best I have seen of him in along time. July 4th weekend I actually saw Gavin driving down Fell Street off of Gough Street with Kimberly Gilfoil (his soon to be Ex-Wife) in the passenger seat. Could they be working it out?

Paris Couture Fall 05' – Chanel

Last Thursday, Karl Lagrafeld showed his Haute Couture collection for Chanel in Paris. The show was busy street of models wearing a-line gowns and slickers with some of the most beautiful cocktails dress his ever done. One word best describes these little numbers, priceless. Continuing with the Classic Chanel mold, Lagrafeld moved back to the 60’s with the colors and shapes. Whether it be Peach Crepe or large Tartan Wool Tweed, the clients for this season are going to pounding on the Vendue of Chanel’s door.

The one-standout piece in this collection was Black Lace Cocktail Dress with Leather Pants. It was the one piece that was moving the Chanel look ahead. Bravo Masseur Lagrafeld. The overall look of the show was fluid but the hair looked like mops on top of their heads. You can't have everything.

Home Hunt n Run 1.0

We are still working hard at looking at homes and placing bids. So far we are 0 for 2 - for both losses we came in second. Just got word that the first house we bid on in Willow Glen, San Jose sold for 725K, it was listed at 699K. We lost our second offer coming in a close second again. So now its back to looking, we found two houses last weekend and waiting a reply on a bid on one of them. Fingers Crossed.

X3 Update – Marvel CEO Coming Out Swining!

Defamer reported a statement by Marvel Comic CEO Avi Arad today, bashing the crazy rumors spinning about X3 director Brett Ratner. Most of these rumors or statements are coming from the blog world and online movie critics. Mr. Arad states we are all "Idiots." Then goes on to paint Mr. Ratner as a stunning director based on movies like "Red Dragon", "Family Man" and two GIANT comedies. (FYI -- those two "Giant" comedies are Rush Hour 1 & 2)

Now I will give Mr. Ratner the two Giant Comedies, both Rush Hours are hilarious and huge box office successes. (See Box Office #'s below) But his two-namesake drama's is what has the movie junkies a flutter. Personally, I thought "Family Man" & "Red Dragon" were visually beautiful movies. The reason they flopped or in some eyes "Sucked" is BAD CASTING. My worry and others are starting to rant about, is Mr. Ratner's ability to cast the new roles in the upcoming X3. So far his 0/1, Kelsey Grammer as "Beast" is big questionable choice, critics will probably settle on him once they find out if they are going to CG him or live action". We can’t credit him for Vinnie Jones as “Juggernaut”, we can thank Matthew Vaughn for that brilliant choice. So, Mr. Ratner has two 2 major characters left to cast and the world is dying to know and they'll be quick to judge. It goes along with the turf.

Rush Hour = $175 Million (Budget
Rush Hour 2 = $230 Million (Budget $90 Million)
Family Man = $80 Million (Budget $60 Million)
Red Dragon = $95 Million (Budget $90 Million)

Why Are Today's Movies Bombing Left & Right?

It's Simple -- Too Many Sequel & Remakes!!!!!!!!!

Add this Remake/Sequel to the FIRE. Emilio Estevez made a statement this week that he has signed for John Hughes sequel to "The Breakfast Club". I am sorry, there are so many films out there that should not be a Remake or a Sequel. Mr. Hughes, please leave your perfect masterpiece alone. Don't mess with Perfection! Also, don't touch the following films; (we don't need to know what happened to Sam, Gary, Wyatt & Ferris)

Mr. Hughes Don't Touch These Films
Pretty in Pink
Sixteen Candles
The Breakfast Club
Ferris Buller's Day Off
Weird Science
Mr. Mom

I would have added "Uncle Buck", "Great Outdoors" & "Plane, Trains & Automobiles" but you know that no comedian or actor could ever replace John Candy and I mean no one!

Separation of Church & State vol. 2

Adding to my interest in the Government's Separation of Church & State, here is a quote from Thomas Jefferson. The part that interests me most is that the government should us their legislative powers to reach actions and not opinions. I can think of many members of Congress who should see this quote.

Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States, "Principle Author of the Declaration of Independence" & "Primary Architect of The American Tradition of Separation of Church and State"
Letter to the Danbury Baptists, 1802

"Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their Legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church and State"

Patrick Devon's Site

There are many new amazing graphic or cartoon artists today. One I have fallen in love with is Glen Hanson. Patrick Devon's web blog showcases works by him and other artists like Patrick Fillion. I have enjoyed his site for sometime now, you should check it from time to time. Today Mr. Devon posted this drawing of Alan Cumming in "Cabaret", it's amazing. Je L'adore

Paris Couture Fall 05' - Givenchy

First Dior steals Galliano, they fire McQueen because his to Advanced and then they let MacDonald go because his to gaudy. The latest pick Riccardo Tisci, is, well just not Givenchy. Mr. Tisci is a true Italian designer but nothing in the collection screamed Audrey. I think Monsieur Givenchy is at home right now shaking his head in shame. Another blog in Paris who is part of Monsieur St. Laurent circle, commented Monsieur St. Laurent thought the collection was a “travesty for Givenchy, the greatest couturie alive”

The collection was a mix, but a mix with no defining look. At close examination pieces have been molded from other couture houses. Coats from Lacroix, Gowns from Balenciaga and Chanel, Skirt suits from St. Laurent and even one dress that is a Donna Karan cut out. This parade of knock offs is a black blemish on the Givenchy name, history and house.

thank you style for the photos

Vegas New Hotel Venture

The latest on Brad Pitt has nothing to do with Angelina Jolie and a Baby. This time he and Guy pal George Clooney are joining forces with Rande Gerber (Cindy Crawford’s Husband) to open a New Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Brad, with his great knowledge of Architecture is expected to be involved in the design. I see something modern on the strip pretty soon, without a silly theme.

X3 Update – Not another bad casting!

More and more the next X-men Movie is starting to sound like a joke. First they cast Kelsey Grammer as “Beast” and I am finally warm to that idea. Second, the latest director Brett Ratner says his putting a Mutant Prostitute with powers of seduction in the movie. Now Mr. Ratner is saying his ex Serena Williams (tennis player) and her sister Venus Williams are his top picks for the Prostitute role. Who cares, if Mr. Ratner is really serious about this new mutant he can do better than the William's sister. Mr. Ratner will you just do your job and pick a Gambit already – we are dying to know. And just so everyone knows, all I really care about is they keep Colossus in the film with a bigger part this time. In my opion

Thanks Dark Horizons

Paris Couture Fall 05' - Armani

Armani showed on Wednesday with mixed reviews from top critics. Without a blink of an eye, one can see that Armani continues to reproduce old pieces. The collection consisted of 7 cocktail pieces, 11 pant pieces and over 35 gowns, too many gowns. Last season Armani did all gowns and was slammed by the Chamber and critics. This collection also shares to many similarities with the Gucci style, Sleek, Sexy and Strong Colors. And here for over 25 years I thought Armani was a great tailor of suites. The Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture should really rethink their decision in honoring Mr. Armani with an invitation to show. I hope the Armani team starts to learn from these two travesties. Three strikes and your out!

Separation of Church & State vol. 1

The United States is slowly moving away from the basic foundation of the Constitution. More and more our political leaders in both the Federal and State Governments are using their positions as leaders in Civil Government as crusades based on their religious moral and values. The separation of Church and State is beginning to disappear. Many Democrats/Independents and members of Minority groups are fighting but the fight is getting harder and harder. Unfortunately this wave of government decisions based on religious beliefs or teachings has slowly trickled into education. I can’t remember any time in school where the teacher made it clear that Religion and Government are two separate things. The topic may even taboo today.

For the last 7 years I have thrown myself from wall to wall trying to understand how we’ve peddled this far backwards and how are we going to get back on track. I am reading more and more about this on the net and find myself searching for the points of view of our founding fathers and pioneers. I plan to write more on this subject and to find quotes……

James Madison “President of the United States” “Father of the Constitution”
Annals of Congress, Saturday, August 15th, 1789
Summary of the First Amendment

“Congress should not establish a religion and enforce the legal observation of it by law, nor compel men to worship God in any manner contary to their conscience, or that one sect might obtain a pre-eminence, or two combined together, and establish a religion to which they would compel others to conform”

thank you Ian D.

Paris Couture Fall 05' - Christian Dior

Wednesday, July 6th 2005, Christian Dior designer John Galliano abandoned the world of Haute Street and come back to the classique Haute Couture. Mr. Galliano also returned to his most remembered theatrical presentation of fashion. The runway was a set stage from the ghostly grounds of a French Estate.

The show was homage and restructure of Monsieur Dior’s “New Look”. Mr. Galliano presented several segments which brought the “New Look” shape into a new era. The “Creation” section was a parade of living mannequin’s draped with sensuality and structure. While the Hollywood section was his weakest. The gowns weren’t cut like a Galliano or a Dior and on top was embellishments that screamed Versace. I though I would never use those two in the same review, ever.

Overall the collection was a giant leap forward and a way from the street inspired collections from the last 4 years. There were some hints of the Galliano past in the “Cathrinittes” but the high drama over the “Masked Ball” section brought us back from the old. Two important materials in this collection, is proof that Mr. Galliano can drape and tailor Organza & Crepe like no other. The silk organza “Directrice” pieces were sexy and sophisticated.

Another great item to report is the return of the Supermodels to Haute Couture. Linda Evangelista, Shalom Harlow, Naomi Campbell, Nadja Auermann, Kristy Hume, Eva Horzigova, Erin O’Connor & Stella Tenant. Last season Chanel invited the ladies, this time Mr. Galliano brought back their dramatic walks to bring back his high drama runway settings. Unfortunately they were all featured in the Hollywood section and they tried hard to make those dresses move like a Dior. If only Christy was there………

Oil & Hurricanes

With all the media attention focused on the bombings in London. Some headlines are being pushed to the back burner, which could have a bad outcome. The Financial Time reported today that the Saudi Energy Officials have issued private warnings that they will not be able to meet western demand in 10-15 years. With the oil prices at continued record highs ($61+) and our increasing need for oil, we are in serious danger.

A better question or concern is what will come of the recent bid from China to buy Unocal. An official for Unocal made a statement they are "considering the bid under specific conditions."

With the Hurricane season underway, and Hurricane Dennis headed straight for New Orleans. I turn back to the recent FX network original movie "Oil Storm". Which details what would happen if a heavy Hurricane would hit the Port Fourchon pipeline. Scary to think we are so close and how real it could be. There is no listing for Oil Storm right now in the programming but if you get a chance to watch it, educate yourself.
